It’s Christmas 1944. The Andrews Sisters are rehearsing for a big show in New York City as the postman delivers a package of mail from The Stars & Stripes. In the package are hundreds of letters from GI’s and sailors who want to send a special Christmas greeting to their loved ones at home, and the Sisters have volunteered to deliver their messages – in song. These real-life letters sent home from the front are full of day-to-day humor, boredom and the sheer terror that afflicted the men and women of World War II. As the Sisters peruse the individual stories told by each letter, they’re moved to sing some of their most famous Christmas arrangements. They’re joined at different points in the rehearsal by their good friends Danny Kaye, Bing Crosby, Lou Costello, Bud Abbott and others.
