Other Things to Do
If you’re travelling for vacation or work, going to a Broadway show might be one of your biggest priorities while you’re away from home, but it’s certainly not the only thing that New York, or whatever other city you might find yourself in, has to offer. In fact, a major production might be one of the more entertaining things that you can think of doing, but planning your trip around the play will make your time spent at the theater that much more enjoyable.
First Things First
When you are planning a trip, you need to take care of the basics first. Make sure that you have your travel arrangements figured out. This goes not just for the transportation to and from the city you’ll be staying in, but also travel around the city. Maybe you will be relying on the subway, maybe you’ll be taking a cab. Whatever you plan on doing, make sure that you put some thought into it before you get there.
Next, think about where you’ll be staying in connection to this travel. For example, if you’re going to be staying at a hotel, be sure and check out whether or not they provide a shuttle bus to and from tourist hotspots. A lot of hotels provide this service for either free or for a very small price. If you have a specific theater in mind that you’ll be attending, ask at the front desk whether or not it would be possible to have the shuttle drop you off close to that location.
Spend some time scouting out the restaurants nearby, too. Some people have food sensitivities or special foods that they like or dislike, and knowing what your choices are ahead of time will make this kind of planning a lot easier.
Next Steps
The next step is to check out your other forms of entertainment. Now, we know that you might not have a ton of free time while you’re away, and that’s okay. Your biggest priority is the theater, but in a big city like New York or Chicago, a big show is certainly not the only form of entertainment out there. There are plenty of clubs and hot spots, along with other fun events, like concerts, sporting events, and comedy shows. Whatever your other interests might be, there’s likely something in store for you during that time that you’re out.
Just like you would find Broadway tickets, you can use a third party ticket site to scope out what is going on as far as entertainment goes while you’re away. If you enjoy music, then check and see who is performing during the time that you’re there. If you love football, see if there’s a game that weekend. You have so many options, and many of them are not that costly. If you’re a fan of art, go and check out a museum or stop by a gallery. There’s a lot to do, all you need to do is find it.
If you need more ideas, most cities have departments of tourism. You can give them a call or check out their websites. There might even be cultural events such as festivals or parades that you can take in, depending on when you go. The bigger the city that you’re headed to, the more likely you are to find something other than the theater to do while you are there. Big cities are a lot of fun, and you’re definitely going to find something that you will love to take part in. Plan ahead so that you can get the most out of your time here.
